Do you take your vitamins on a regular basis? Vitamins whether consumed as a daily tablet or ideally done through our diets are not only beneficial for our overall health, but for our oral health is well.
Vitamin A
Often we think of vitamin A as essential for our eye health. While this is true, vitamin A is also essential in keeping your mouth’s saliva supply flowing. Having your gums and cheeks with a coat of saliva makes the less susceptible to disease.
Carrots are the most commonly known resource for vitamin A. Other sources abundant in vitamin A are other orange fruits and vegetables such as peppers and sweet potatoes. Other sources for vitamin A are dark leafy greens like kale, spinach, and collard greens.
Vitamin B
This vitamin family is important in warding off mouth sores and oral inflammation. If you find yourself getting canker sores or having gingival inflammation try incorporating more of these vitamins into your diet. Foods such are poultry, fish, red meats, diary products, spinach, almonds, and legumes are rich in niacin and riboflavin.
Vitamin C
The connective tissue of our gums are reliant on vitamin C to stay strong. Without enough of vitamin C teeth gums can bleed and gum disease, gingivitis, could become a danger. Foods with a high vitamin C contact as sweet potatoes, peppers, broccoli, berries, oranges, kale, and berries.
