Do you think you may have "Corona Cavities"?

As all of us are going through a change right now, taking care of our health has been more important than ever. It is recommended to see your Dentist twice a year; however, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Dentists are seeing a lot of patients delaying their appointments. Dentists are also seeing more patients with what they are referring to as “Corona Cavities”. These cavities are even affecting patients whose never had oral issues.

It is believed "Corona Cavities" are being caused from the sudden transition from the Pandemic. Due to people staying at home more frequently, they tend to snack and drink all day. Anxiety and depression can play a huge impact and cause an individual to skip out on their oral hygiene routine. Another reason can be the face mask that is required in the majority of states to be worn. Masks are causing dry mouths; which can cause tooth decay and bad breath.

At Matonti Dental, we have taken extra precautions to keep everyone healthy and safe. During your appointment, Dr. Matonti will be wearing a N-95 face mask, a face shield, protective glasses and a gown to protect both of you. If you still don't feel comfortable enough to adventure out to your dental cleaning, there are a few tips to keep your mouth safe for the time being:

  • Monitor what you are eating: Avoid sugary drinks and sweets.
  • Staying hydrated: Drink daily intake of water; this helps avoid dry mouth and our teeth like a wet environment.
  • Continue daily oral hygiene routine: Flossing and brushing your teeth.
  • Pay attention to jaw clenching.
